Advancing Conservation and Education Through Collaboration in October

October was a month of impactful collaborations and educational initiatives, highlighting our dedication to advancing wildlife conservation and fostering meaningful connections within the global community.

This October, our team member Andreas Bandang Hadrian had the honor of presenting at WECARe 2024: Wildlife-Endangered Species Conservation and Animal Reproduction International Conference. The event, themed “Their Future is Our Future: Sustainable Development of Assisted Reproductive Technology and Biobanking for Biodiversity Conservation,” was organized by the School of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, IPB.

Participation in WECARe 2024 was not only an extraordinary opportunity for us to share our knowledge but also a valuable platform to expand our professional network. We firmly believe that collaboration and the exchange of ideas in conferences like these contribute significantly to addressing global challenges related to biodiversity conservation and environmental sustainability.

This month, in collaboration with Gembira Loka Zoo, we had the privilege of presenting our ongoing conservation efforts for the Malayan Giant Turtle at the EAZA (European Association of Zoos and Aquaria) Annual Conference 2024.

The presentation highlighted the progress and achievements of our joint conservation program and underscored the importance of collaborative initiatives in protecting critically endangered species. This international stage offered us a chance to showcase our work while inspiring others to take part in meaningful conservation actions.

Despite temporarily halting our internship program due to the ongoing relocation process, we remain committed to supporting education and research activities. Our team continues to provide mentorship and serve as resource persons for students working on academic assignments, theses, or final research projects.

Through these engagements, we aim to educate and inspire students about wildlife conservation while sharing insights into the programs we have been implementing. By nurturing the next generation of conservationists, we hope to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation for biodiversity preservation.

One of our Foundation team members, Irhamna Putri Rahmawati, had the opportunity to be a participant in the YSEALI PFP-Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative Professional Fellows Program and had the opportunity to study at Bur Oak Land Trust for 6 weeks. The program, which was carried out for 6 weeks, provided a lot of input and experience for Irhamna Putri. After carrying out the program, Irhamna Putri shared her results and experiences while volunteering at Bur Oak Land Trust with the entire team of Yayasan Konservasi Alam Yogyakarta and Widlife Rescue Center Jogja in a presentation. With this presentation, it is hoped that the YKAY-WRC team will be able to share in the experience and also increase our team’s knowledge in the field of land conservation.

These activities not only reflect our dedication to conservation but also emphasize our commitment to collaboration and education as key pillars of our mission. Together, we are building a future where people and wildlife can thrive in harmony.
