WRC is not a zoo and is not open to the public. If you wish to visit us please contact us prior to arrival to arrange an appointment. If you have not prearranged an appointment there may be no member of staff available to speak with you. After your appointment a donation will be expected for the maintenance of the animals.

At WRC Jogja we have three species of cockatoos. At WRC Jogja we have three species of cockatoos. In the first picture we have the Sulphur-crested cockatoo (Cacatua galerita). In the second picture we have the Goffin’s cockatoo (Cacatua goffiniana). In the last picture we have the Yellow-crested cockatoo (Cacatua sulphurea). Of these three species, the Yellow-crested cockatoo is critically endangered due to the illegal wildlife trade and habitat loss. All of our cockatoos are rescued from the illegal wildlife trade and illegal ownership. ______________________________ Di WRC Jogja kami memiliki tiga spesies burung kakatua. Foto pertama merupakan Kakatua koki (Cacatua galerita). Pada foto kedua merupakan Kakatua goffin atau Kakatua tanimbar (Cacatua goffiniana). Foto terakhir adalah Kakatua jambul kuning (Cacatua sulphurea). Dari ketiga spesies ini, kakatua jambul kuning sudah terancam punah akibat perdagangan satwa liar ilegal dan hilangnya habitat. This is Tomwek, our one and only Lar Gibbon. She This is Tomwek, our one and only Lar Gibbon. She is 27 years of age which makes her the oldest animal in our care. Tomwek was taken away from her mother when she was still a baby. She then lived as someone’s pet for almost 10 years. In 2003 she got rescued by our centre and finally have a better life. Unfortunately she can never be a wild gibbon again due to her age and lack of wild behavior. She lived too long as a pet and still need humans to survive. Dia berusia 27 tahun yang menjadikannya hewan tertua dalam perawatan kami. Tomwek diambil dari ibunya ketika dia masih bayi. Dia kemudian hidup sebagai hewan peliharaan seseorang selama hampir 10 tahun. Pada tahun 2003 dia diselamatkan oleh centre kami dan akhirnya memiliki kehidupan yang lebih baik. Sayangnya dia tidak akan pernah bisa menjadi owa liar lagi karena usianya dan kurangnya perilaku liar. This is Jon, one of our Southern Cassowaries. Whe This is Jon, one of our Southern Cassowaries. When Jon was born at the centre, he had some troubles coming out of his shell. Now he lives with a slightly clubbed foot and little case of crossbeak. His parents were kept as pets for many years before being rescued by WRC Jogja. Many people still keep cassowaries as pets because of their beautifull colors, but they grow big and are one of the most dangerous birds on the planet. Cassowaries can jump 7 feet high in the air and kick with their big and sharp claws when they feel threatened. The family still live at our centre since it is difficult to release them in their natural habitat in Papua where people still hunt them and due to habitat loss. Because of this their numbers are decreasing. ____________________________________ Ini Jon, salah satu Kasuari kami. Ketika Jon lahir di centre, dia memiliki beberapa masalah saat keluar dari cangkangnya. Sekarang dia hidup dengan kaki yang sedikit bengkok dan paruhnya yang menyilang. Induknya dijadikan hewan peliharaan selama bertahun-tahun sebelum diselamatkan oleh WRC Jogja. Banyak orang masih memelihara kasuari sebagai hewan peliharaan karena warnanya yang indah, namun mereka tumbuh besar dan merupakan salah satu burung paling berbahaya di planet ini. Kasuari dapat melompat setinggi 7 kaki di udara dan menendang dengan cakar yang besar dan tajam saat merasa terancam. Kawanan kasuari ini masih tinggal di centre kami karena sulit untuk melepasliarkannya di habitat aslinya di Papua, dimana masih banyak diburu serta hilangnya habitat.
