We opened the month with an internal strategy meeting between YKAY’s Board of Trustees and the WRC Jogja team to refine the relocation plan for our new facility. Aligning land-use layouts with future animal-care and community-education needs is an ongoing puzzle, but the discussion moved us several steps closer to a blueprint everyone believes in.

As a partner of Australian Volunteers, Cisca, on behalf of WRC Jogja, attended a PSEAH (Preventing Sexual Exploitation, Abuse & Harassment) Policy-Making Workshop hosted by Australian Aid. The session—held ahead of the full-day workshop in April—was an eye-opener, pushing us to audit our reporting channels and embed safeguarding clauses into every project design. It was a sober reminder that protecting wildlife must always go hand-in-hand with protecting people.
Next, we convened a Financial Management for Conservation Projects workshop led by our foundation treasurer, Lorens Hardi Pranoto. Staff from YKAY-WRC, Konklusi, and our interns learned practical tools for setting up activity-based budgets, tracking real-time expenses, and meeting donor-reporting standards. The focus on transparency and accountability resonated strongly with everyone in the room.
March also wrapped up the final online session of the four-month Project Design & Fundraising Training hosted by the Tropical Biology Association (TBA) Course and funded by IUCN ASAP. The grant-writing masterclass tied ethics and finance together—showing how a well-costed, community-safe project narrative becomes a funder-ready proposal.

Continued with the Malayan Giant Turtle Project funded by Norden’s Ark, our veterinary team—Andreas Bandang, colleagues from Gembira Loka Zoo, and GL Zoo interns—started to complete the monthly morphometric assessments of our Malayan Giant Turtle juvenile and ran DNA-sampling video tutorials for staff training. Regular health exams help us keep these critically endangered youngsters on track for future release.
At the end of the month, Irna and Cisca joined an online catch-up with the ASAP NOW Collective member. They shared achievements, lessons learned, and tips on leading yourself. It was a great reminder that real connection is built on trust, shared stories, and working together.
