WRC is not only home to several orangutans but an array of Indonesian wildlife that have been rescued from the illegal wildlife trade: sun bears, eagles, gibbons, monkeys, parrots, crocodiles and turtles. When you intern with WRC you will be able to work closely with these animals alongside the animal keepers, veterinarians, and office staff. It is an excellent opportunity to dive right in and experience, first-hand, all that goes in to running an animal rescue centre.

Our centre is run by just a few dedicated staff, so we welcome volunteers and interns to help and bring new ideas. Internship program descriptions are a guideline, so we are flexible and can shift your duties according to your specific skill set and goals. With programs focusing on animal welfare, veterinary work, education, environment, or marketing and communications, you can be sure that your time here will equip you with the skills and knowledge for a career in conservation.

Apply now to gain invaluable experience and make a difference in the lives of Indonesian wildlife.

requirements

To apply, you must be at least 18 years old, with 6 months to 1 year experience in relevant conservation work, but those with experience in other related areas are encouraged to apply. Internationals as well as locals are eligible. Fluency in English is a requirement for all internships and Bahasa Indonesia ability is a major asset. Please refer to the individual internship programs for further requirements and job details.

A medical check and proof of vaccines will be required prior to your stay (Please check the medical requirements). Interns work 8 hours per day, 6 days per week, often in hot and humid conditions, so a level of personal fitness is essential in many tasks.  Upon completion of the program, interns will make a presentation and written report of their time here.

reviews

Never had I thought that I would learn so much, be treated so well and feel like part of a new family.

Francisco Carvalho

Veterinary Intern, Portugal

Thank you so much for having me the last 6 months! And thank you giving me a home during this crazy pandemic. With everything closed, volunteers gone, and community events stopped, I should have been disappointed. But instead, I’ve had an incredible experience with the most welcoming and friendly group of people. I’m very grateful to all of you for hosting/ teaching/ spending time with me 🙂

I have fallen in love with the culture, the food, and the people here (and especially the animals). Please love them a little extra for me. I really hope I make it back someday.

Hannah Miles

Intern, UK

Thank you for a wonderful 3 months, I have had an unforgettable time and will never forget you guys! I hope one day I can come back to visit everyone and see the cute animal 🙂

Thanks for teaching me so much about wildlife care and now to be a better person! Love you guys! PS: You guys are AMAZING!

Hannah Griffiths

Intern, UK

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for making these last 6 months some of the best in my life. Every single person was so welcoming and lovely and I will miss you all! I have so much love for this place (especially for Leo, Simon + Tomwek), Ibu Tri’s food, and so many moments spent together. I have learned a lot about myself and the world of conservation + wildlife rescue that I know has changed me for the better.

Thank you for making my year 2020 so much better than most people’s. I love you all 🙂

Keep saving those animals!!
