About Ucokwati and Mungil

  • Species: Bornean Orangutan
    (Pongo pygmaeus)
  • Sex: Females
  • Birthday: 14th June 2001 (Ucokwati), 19th May 2013 (Mungil)
  • Arrival: 8th October 2011

I was rescued from a restaurant in Solo, Central Java where I was kept as a baby in a smallcage with Joko. I was supposed to be entertainment for restaurant guests but I hated it. I was exposed to cigarette smoke and an unhealthy diet.
I gave birth to Mungil while at WRC. It was difficult at the beginning, but now I’m a great mum! I teach Mungil all she needs to know, although sometimes we fight over new toys. My favourite toy is the fruit box, especially when the keepers add leaves with honey. They say I’m very clever and are always trying to think of new challenges for me.One day, WRC want to send my family and I to Borneo where we can learn about life in the wild.
