About Jeki

  • Species: Bornean White-bearded Gibbon (Hylobates Albibarbis)
  • Sex: Male
  • Birthday: November 2017
  • Arrival: 17th May 2019

After receiving me and my brother as gifts, my owner brought me to WRC once he realized he couldn’t look after me properly. When I arrived, I was in a very bad state. I only weighed 1.5kg, was badly malnourished, and was covered in faeces. I had to walk on my hands because I couldn’t use my legs very well. The kind people at WRC looked after me and helped me learn to walk and eat by myself. Sadly, my brother didn’t make it. Now, I sleep in a nest box, and I am brave enough to let go of my ball when humans are around. I love swinging around my enclosure and chattering with my neighbours. Soon I’ll be ready to move to a larger enclosure where I can live with a friend! One day, WRC are going to move me to Malaysia, where hopefully I can be rehabilitated and released into the wild.
