About Boni

  • Species: Bornean Orangutan
    (Pongo pygmaeus)
  • Sex: Male
  • Birthday: 1999
  • Arrival: 14th October 2006

I used to be kept by a village chief in Central Java, as a symbol of social status. They taught me to clean and sweep up my cage, and to wash their cars! I’m mostly very quiet but I can be cheeky too. I get a little nervous around new people in case they are mean to me like my old owners. I love fruit parcels, but I wait until I’m alone to enjoy them. I still sweep the floor of my enclosure if I think it’s dirty. I can’t go back to the wild because my behaviour isn’t very natural for an orangutan, so I’m going to live here at WRC as comfortably as possible.
